First Look Doctor Who series 9: The Doctor and Clara flee explosion
But when Davies made comments about making a new film version, it was soon after the current Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi’s first season in office, making the possibility seem a moot point of discussion, until the Scottish actor decides to quit the iconic role that is.

Williams is best known as Arya Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones“, and Moffat says her role on “Doctor Who” is different for the 18-year-old actress.
As the start of the ninth season of Doctor Who draws closer, the BBC on Tuesday released a promo image of its Timelord and his trusty companion.
Quite what’s going on in this scene from upcoming first episode, The Magician’s Apprentice, we couldn’t say – but we can’t help noticing that, while the Doctor might have a look of consternation on his face (and rightly, so given the chaos going on behind him) Clara just seems to be gazing dreamily at him, totally oblivious to the peril all around. Moffats said, “If people are hugely associated with a much-loved show, then it’s good to have them on your show. They know you’re playing somebody else”.
Meanwhile, some reports are skeptical about Moffat’s statements. Even more so when her interaction with The Doctor on BBC’s official trailer for “Doctor Who” showed some familiarity.
Ever since Williams’ guest role on the show was confirmed last March, fans’ speculations viciously spread. If that’s the case, here’s our theory: She’s playing herself. The Doctor’s daughter, Jenny, might be a candidate since her fate has yet to be resolved.
Assuming that Moffat isn’t pulling anyone’s leg, Williams’ character will be new to the series.
Perhaps inevitably, the question also came up of just how many seasons Capaldi will stick around for as the time-travelling Time Lord.

As previously announced, Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver also return for the new series which includes great appearances from Maisie Williams, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.
