One day after leading the Denver Broncos to a win over the Chicago Bears, quarterback Brock Osweiler received another vote of confidence from head coach Gary Kubiak.
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning spent Monday traveling to Charlotte, N.C. for a second opinion on his injured foot from specialist Dr. Robert Anderson.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported before Sunday’s game that “Osweiler’s play may decide when Manning returns”, and that “no one has ruled out Osweiler taking over if he lights it up”.
As has been surmised by veteran Denver sportscaster Ron Zappolo in commentary on KUSA-TV Channel 9, the NBC affiliate in Denver Monday, Osweiler is more effective than Manning at this stage with the weather getting colder and having a sufficiently powerful arm to cut through the elements and make plays in the passing game.
A league spokesman said a review was begun after the game “to determine the facts of the injury… and why [Keenum] was not removed from the game for the necessary evaluation by a team physician or the unaffiliated neuro-trauma consultant, as required by our concussion protocols”.
Ronnie Hillman ran for 102 yards.
Jeffri Chadiha of NFL.com added he was equally impressed with Osweiler in his first NFL start.
“They came down with a plan to run the ball down our throat and they ran the ball down our throat”, said linebacker Pernell McPhee. “He’s a very composed young man and the more he plays, I think, the better he’s going to get”. “We blocked out that outside noise and we got the job done”. Not only that, but they have kept him around as long as they have behind Manning, so they must like what they see in him.
QB UPDATES: The NY Jets are sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick as starting QB, even though it finally has dawned on everyone in the Big Apple that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starting QB, who is performing exactly as Ryan Fitzpatrick would… Most significantly, he avoided any major mistakes, with no interceptions, giving the Broncos their first game without an interception this season. And linebacker Pernell McPhee was back after missing last week’s game. In the fourth quarter, when his 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cody Latimer gave the Broncos a critical eight-point lead, he was 4-for-6 for 56 yards, no picks and a TD. “Here’s the deal, we got healthier here today”.
