First of two winners comes forward to claim record Lotto jackpot
Ticket sales for the multi-state Powerball lottery soared Saturday as people dreamed of winning the largest jackpot in US history which grew by $100 million to hit $900 million just hours before Saturday night’s drawing. While you’d make back some of your investment on smaller prizes paid for matching three, four or five numbers plus the Powerball, chances are it still isn’t a good bet.

The odds of winning Saturday’s monster jackpot were one in 292.2 million.
The record-setting jackpot for Powerball’s Wednesday drawing has been increased again, as officials disclosed that a $1 million victor from Saturday’s drawing was sold in Philadelphia.
This marks the game’s highest and the world’s largest jackpot ever offered. If you live near the Louisiana border, you might want to head over there since that state has recorded 15 winning Powerball tickets. After 19 drawings, no one has yet to match all five numbers plus the Powerball to claim the grand prize. It’s the billion dollar question- $1.4 billion to be exact.
It goes like this: The Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; and the Virgin Islands. If you end up becoming the lucky victor of Wednesday’s drawing, here are things you need to consider to enjoy your $1.4 billion.
Roughly 95 percent of Powerball tickets are computer-generated quick picks, so people’s favorite numbers aren’t really a factor.

The inquiries include many myths and misconceptions about the winners, the prize money and the system that decides them. He says he’s already got a ticket for Wednesday night. And the more tickets that are purchased, the greater the chance that there will be multiple winners. Nationally, Powerball has produced 316 second-tier winners of $1 million or $2 million in the past fiscal year (there were eight winners of this prize in KY in FY15).
