An 18-year-old gunman who apparently acted alone has opened fire in a busy shopping mall in Munich, killing nine people in the third attack against civilians in Western Europe in eight days.

The police had earlier said that three gunmen were responsible for the attack that started in a McDonald’s restaurant in the shopping mall in north-western Moosach district. “I it is good to know that between populations there is solidarity and that we have many friends against terrorism and violence”. They say that there were an “unknown” number of injuries and that they could not confirm if there were other crime scenes aside from Hanauer Street.
Munich police say the man who killed himself may be the only gunman.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Munich has declared a day of mourning for the victims of Friday’s shooting in the Bavarian capital.
He had left a letter and a video on YouTube which De Maiziere said was a “classical farewell video” of a suicide attacker from the Islamic State jihadist group (IS).
