The State Department of Public Health has confirmed the first case of Zika virus in ct. “He was not seriously ill and has recovered”.
The woman is the sixth confirmed case in Pennsylvania, according to a press release from the county.
The Washington Post reported yesterday that the CDC warned pregnant women not travel to Cuba.
President Obama’s historic trip to Cuba on Sunday was accompanied by a warning from USA health officials that the mosquito-borne Zika virus linked to birth defects has spread to the island nation.
In addition, the state will distribute free prevention kits to pregnant woman that include repellent and condoms.
Among those who tested positive for the virus is an infant who was born with severe microcephaly, a brain development disorder linked to Zika virus infection.
The patients in the report said they became ill between 37 days before returning to the US and 11 days after returning to the USA, according to the report.
“We encourage those concerned about symptoms to consult their doctor, particularly if they have traveled to an affected area and particularly if they are pregnant”, Malloy said in a statement. While Zika virus is known to be transmitted via an infected mosquito, there is a theoretical risk of spread via sexual contact (one confirmed case) or through infected blood.
Cuomo’s plan will fight the source of the virus, Aedes mosquitoes, with enhanced trapping and testing.
Both regions have abundant populations of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes nearly year-round, and they are more likely to host travelers who have contracted the disease.
“We provide mosquito control for the whole county”, he said.
“CDC will begin distributing the test during the next two weeks to qualified laboratories in the Laboratory Response Network, an integrated network of domestic and global laboratories that respond to public health emergencies”, the statement said.

The most common countries visited by the patients were Haiti, El Salvador, Colombia, Honduras and Guatemala, the CDC reported.
