Fisher pleased with Golson in No. 9 Florida State’s offense

But while many matchups this year are no different, No. 9 Florida State has some that are lose-able. In fact, in 2014, only one Power 5 team ran the ball more than BC: Georgia Tech.

Golson faces a familiar opponent though this week in Boston College.

“They’re doing the same things they do on offense and doing the same things they do on defense”, Fisher said.

Still, Friday nights are usually reserved for other things – last-minute game prep or maybe even a visit to a high school football game – and Fisher prefers they stay that way. A sloppy, mistake-filled and downright weird Friday night game favors the Eagles, especially at home. Golson has been strong in the second half of both of Florida State’s games, but his adjustment to the offense remains a work in progress.

“We need to start better on offense … just a few things out of whack”, Fisher said. We had some critical penalties that set us back. Dalvin Cook’s 74-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was the byproduct of Golson checking out of the original play, which was a screen pass. Did a real nice job in the second half, was very accurate, very efficient.

The Seminoles have won the last five meetings against Boston College, but needed a Roberto Aguayo field goal with three seconds left last season to hold off the Eagles 20-17.

The Boston College Eagles are coming from a 76-0 victory over Howard in Week 2. “It’s very tough to do”. They’re going to be well prepared. Play a lot of two, mix up coverages.

“They do it all”. They have good players. Whether Addazio and newly-promoted offensive coordinator Todd Fitch break out of their traditional model this season still largely remains to be seen, but if the Eagles’ offense struggles to score against Florida State’s secondary on Friday night, expect Addazio to revert back to old faithful. Jeff Smith led the team with 89 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.

Steve Addazio adjusted his entire game-week routine to prepare for a top-10 opponent.

“It’s great to have him on our side”, Florida State wideout Jesus Wilson said.

“I worked every day, going out there on my own to push myself and it is helping me right now”.

Fisher accepts the reasoning for midweek games. We’d like to pin them inside their twenty and on kickoffs obviously. “His body feels good”.

For the second straight week, it was a tale of two halves for the Florida State football team. If Golson begins badly again this week, it will be interesting to see how short his starter’s leash is.

Fisher said Cook’s GPS monitor workload readings – a system the Seminoles use to monitor stress and conditioning – after the USF game were similar to the opener against Texas State, when he had 19 carries to 156 yards. “So a big game atmosphere at home, I think this will be a great evaluation of where he’s at”.

“He’s a little sore, but he’s fine”, Fisher said of Izzo. “In time, if we get some guys healthy (like Cole Minshew or Chad Mavety), it has a chance (to change)”.
