Fit more in a tweet with Twitter’s new changes
Twitter has relaxed its famous 140-character limit to exclude photos and videos, in a major upheaval of how the social network’s bite-size tweets are displayed.

What do you think of Twitter’s new changes?
One week ago, we first learned that Twitter would likely be easing up on its hard 140-character limit with respect to tweets. “We expect people who are new to Twitter to be welcomed to a much more intuitive experience that makes sense for them and is easier for them to understand”. And when adding attachments to tweets like photos (24 characters), GIFs, videos, polls, or Quote Tweets, that media will also not count as characters within a tweet – this change was previously reported last week.
NEW YORK (AP) – Twitter is giving users more room to express themselves.
Elsewhere, Twitter will also be enabling the retweet and quote tweet options for your own tweets.
That means slightly more wordy tweets are on the way. This could come in handy when you send out a tweet and later want to share it again with your followers.
“One of the biggest priorities for us this year is to really refine our product, to make it simpler”, Twitter founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey told BBC.
“A few simple changes to make conversations on Twitter easier!” But if you replied directly to a Refinery29 tweet, that would only be seen by all your followers if you quote it or retweet it yourself. There is a little caveat with this change, at least in regards to when you @mention another Twitter user.

Twitter hasn’t revealed exactly how the new tweets will look once the changes roll, but we know that user handles will no longer appear ahead of replies. As such, they wanted to give developer partners time to make any adjustments to products built using Twitter’s API. The change will be rolled out in the coming months.
