Fitzpatrick, Ivory lead Jets to 28-23 victory over Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have something to play for in November. “That’s the biggest thing”.

“We won, that’s the biggest thing – did a few sloppy things”, Bowles said. The Jets’ decision to hire the former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator – and not former Bills coach Doug Marrone – has been a good one. As for McCoy, we’ll have to wait and see how he does with the short turnaround. But, we’ve got to find a way to put it all together. It was a win.
Quarterback Blake Bortles was 24-of-39 for 381 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars (2-6), who missed a chance to move closer to the AFC South lead.
Two turnovers in the fourth quarter sealed the Jaguars fate in this one, again showing their inability to get out of their own way. “We did it to ourselves”.
A 45-yard field goal by kicker Jason Myers capped the Jaguars’ first drive and gave Jacksonville a 3-0 lead.
The veteran center was listed as probable for the game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after fully participating in practice Friday. I should have picked that ball off in the end zone. While the defense was shaky at times with a depleted secondary, they made plays when it mattered. The Jets recovered the subsequent onside kick but could not get a first down and punted with 1:05 remaining.
But bruised, battered and injury-depleted, when the final whistled sounded, New York had squeaked out a 28-23 victory over Jacksonville.
After the game, Fitzpatrick confirmed he needed surgery and said he didn’t know if it would happen on Friday.
“Whatever position the coach feels I need to be at, I’m going to go out there and get it done”, Williams said.
It’s also bad because this team is dealing with a ton of offensive injuries, from top to bottom. Folk will have an MRI on Monday.
Not having Folk might have come into play on a fourth-and-3 for the Jets from the Jaguars 25 in the first quarter, when New York went for it rather than try for a field goal.
New York extended their advantage when Fitzpatrick completed a series of throws to guide his team to the goalline where he handed the ball off to Chris Ivory, who ran over the left side of the line for the score. The injury occurred roughly an hour before game time. Hurns roasted Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie while Robinson had little trouble getting open against Hall of Fame-bound cornerback Darrelle Revis.
“It was a positive step”, said wide receiver Allen Hurns, who increased his franchise record to six straight games with a TD reception.
NOTES: The Jaguars’ previous road win came on December 1, 2013, at Cleveland – the longest active skid in the National Football League…. But linebackers Demario Davis and Calvin Pace combined to force a fumble by Bortles that Pace recovered at the Jets’ 34.

McCoy has carried 16 times for 112 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown run.
