Fitzpatrick: Losing To Texans Was Especially “Tough”
Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (10) pulls in a pass…

With back to back wins, including one over Cincinnati last week, the Texans (4-5) may be making a playoff push while the Jets (5-4) would love a win in this one to advance their own.
Yates, subbing for injured starter Brian Hoyer (concussion), finished 16 for 34 for 229 yards. Instead, Yates loaded up and hit DeAndre Hopkins past Darrelle Revis of all corners for a 61-yard score and a 10-3 lead with 3:04 to play in the half. “We were talking about it the other day and he reminds me of the way we used to have to handle Howie Long – same type of player”. They took a 3-0 lead with 14:53 remaining in the second quarter. And he threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Alfred Blue. With the Jets trailing by a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, Fitzpatrick tossed interceptions on consecutive drives to scuttle comeback hopes. This will be the first start for Yates since he played against the Bengals in the 2011 wild card round and beat them. “I think in these game plan meetings he really understands what we’re trying to do with the play”.
Despite being without their starting quarterback and several cornerbacks, the Texans (5-5) had their way for much of the game, thanks to an impressive performance by Watt (two sacks, six tackles) and Hopkins, who caught five passes for 118 yards. He ran the ball four times for 26 yards. Fitzpatrick, who started 12 games for Houston last season before being traded to the Jets in March, was 19-for-39 for 216 yards and a 52.9 passer rating.
NY was also banged up… again. Finally, Fitzpatrick lofted a pass to Brandon Marshall over rookie CB Kevin Johnson for a 21-yard strike and the Jets had slayed the beast that the Texans’ 12-quarter no-TD streak had become.

The Houston Texans get a big win over the NY Jets. They have an aging offensive line that next Sunday might be without Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold, who left the game early after gashing his right hand between his ring finger and pinky. 500 just over more than a week from now, with the deplorably bad Saints coming to town in Week Twelve – buuuuut let’s take a step back here and realize the Jets have an excellent defense, and they’ll be facing off against T.J. Yates who, yes, we all appreciate but… well, you know.
