Five boys held over ‘hate crime’ death of Polish man

A man who died from serious head injures after being knocked unconscious in the street was Polish, it has been revealed.

A 43-year-old man, also from Harlow, was taken to hospital with fractures to his hands and bruising to his stomach.

The men were reportedly eating outside the restaurant in Harlow at 11.35pm on Saturday when they were approached by a group of boys.

His brother Radek reportedly described him as “a family person” and claimed he had been attacked because he had been heard speaking in Polish.

Essex Police has arrested six teenagers as their murder investigations continue into the incident.

Essex Police say one line of enquiry is that the man’s death was a hate crime.

‘Following this vicious attack, a man has sadly lost his life and I urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible’.

Police initially arrested five boys, four 15-year-olds and one 16-year-old, and later a sixth one.

The 40-year-old victim has been named by his brother as Arkadiusz Jozwik, according to the MailOnline.

He encouraged anyone who was present to come forward and said police “understand not all these people were involved and we believe there will be witnesses who were deeply shocked by what took place”.

Police will be carrying out extra patrols in the area and we are working with our partners to provide reassurance to the community.Anyone with information about assault is asked to contact the Harlow Major Investigation Team on 101. All five have been bailed until 7 October pending further inquiries.

A sixth teenager, a 15-year-old boy from Harlow, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of murder and is now in custody awaiting questioning.
