At least three people have been injured in a blast at bus stop in central Moscow, TASS reports citing police sources.

Preliminary information suggests the makeshift explosive was thrown either from a auto or a nearby residential building and hurt “several” people, another Moscow police spokesman, Andrey Galiakberov, said.

A criminal case on charges of hooliganism has been opened, the spokesman said. The explosion was confirmed by the Moscow police press office, which didn’t provide further details.

It is not yet known whether or not the bomb blast is linked to terrorism.

The fourth injured person received outpatient medical care as the scene, he said. Russian President Vladimir Putin started a military campaign in Syria more than two months ago to bolster Syrian President Bashar Assad and fight Islamic State and other jihadis. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Police closed off the area around where the bomb was thrown
