The CDC said pregnant women should also continue to avoid the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami, where the first local transmission of the Zika virus in the United States was detected.
While the state is already battling the virus in the Wynwood Arts neighborhood, the new area is reportedly between 8th and 28th streets in South Beach – an area covering around 1.5 square miles.

Things are much worse in the US territory of Puerto Rico, where federal health officials have declared a public health emergency because Zika is spreading so rapidly among residents there.
No cases of Zika virus connected to local mosquitos have been reported in Pinellas County.
In an email Thursday morning to the mayor and city commissioners, Jimmy Morales said his office had been in “constant communication” with Florida’s Department of Health, and he had been informed of two local Zika cases. Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.
Zika has also been linked to a potentially fatal disorder known as Guillain-Barre syndrome, which can lead to nervous system problems such as weakness and paralysis.
In a statement emailed late Thursday, City Manager Jimmy Morales said Florida’s Department of Health is investigating Zika cases in Miami Beach, but none have been confirmed.
At baggage claim, we caught up with Shelby Latterman who said she knows people who have the virus.

In issuing the travel advisory, Tom Friedan, the head of the CDC, said Friday that the virus is not necessarily spreading throughout the entire county, but there have been instances of mosquitoes infecting individuals in Miami Beach and Wynwood. To that end, mosquito-transmitted cases are not in the backyards of pregnant women living in, or visiting, Manatee or Sarasota counties.
