Five Notre Dame football players arrested on drug charge
“Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university”, Paul Browne, Notre Dame’s vice president for public affairs and communications, said in a statement.

Friday night saw five Notre Dame players arrested; senior safety Max Redfield, sophomore running back Dexter Williams, sophomore linebacker Te’von Coney, redshirt freshman cornerback Ashton White, and freshman wide receiver Kevin Stepherson.
The vehicle was traveling 73 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone, and had an improper taillight, according to state police. With a felony charge looming over him, it is likely Butler has played his last snap at Notre Dame. Three of the men are also facing a charge for possession of a handgun without a license. The trooper utilized his narcotics detecting police dog to conduct a free air sniff around the Ford.
‘He shouted profanities at the officers and started swinging his fist, ‘ Galea said of Butler.
In a separate incident, Notre Dame cornerback Devin Butler was arrested early Saturday morning near campus on preliminary charges of battery to law enforcement and resisting law enforcement.
All five were arrested and taken to the Fulton County Jail, where they were charged with possession of marijuana.
After a brief scuffle, police were able to subdue Butler and handcuff him, Galea said. It was the same foot he broke during preparation for the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State.
Sophomore Williams is a part of ND’s projected three-man running back rotation. White, a sophomore, is not in the Irish two-deeps at cornerback. Given that the Notre Dame players were arrested for possession, they aren’t as likely to get away with just a slap on the wrist.
WNDU reports Butler was expected to miss the beginning of the season while recovering from foot surgery.
The arrests come just over two weeks before the Fighting Irish open their season against the Longhorns in Austin on September 4. Stepherson and Williams were competing for playing time in training camp, while White and Butler were not expected to contribute this year, according to Notre Dame Insider.
