State Police said a trooper stopped a auto Friday night in Fulton County about 35 miles south of South Bend for speeding.
When the officer who intiated the traffic stop approached the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the auto, a police dog was then utilized to conduct a “free air sniff” around the vehicle, which indicated the presence of illegal narcotics.
Williams, Coney, White and Stepherson were arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, while Williams and Stepherson also face the charge of possession of a handgun without a license. One player is accused of punching a cop outside a bar following fight, and five others face charges for marijuana and gun possession. Redford, Stepherson and Williams were also hit with charges of possessing an unlicensed handgun.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – A Notre Dame cornerback accused of tackling a police officer and punching him in the side and stomach during an altercation outside a bar was charged Tuesday with felony counts of resisting law enforcement and battery against a public safety official.
The Notre Dame team, ranked No. 9 in ESPN’s preseason college football poll, completed training camp on Friday in preparation for its September 4 opening game at the University of Texas. “Their conduct fell short of what we expect from those who represent our football team and this great university”.
It’s become pretty easy to be cynical when it comes to college football programs “disciplining” players who get in trouble these days. Brian Kelly’s discipline decision includes the immediate dismissal of Max Redfield, a senior starting safety and NFL Draft prospect, and an indefinite suspension for cornerback Devin Butler.
With 64 tackles last season, Redfield was set to be the team’s leading returning tackler.
Max Redfield has been kicked off Notre Dame’s football team and Devin Butler has been suspended indefinitely, coach Brian Kelly said in a statement released Sunday afternoon.
Butler apologized while he was being taken to jail, ‘stating that he had been incredibly emotional and intoxicated, ‘ according to the affidavit.
