Five questions on the blockbuster DeMarcus Cousins trade

The Sacramento Kings were in desperate need of a fresh start. Cousins, while putting up over a block and a steal per game over his career, isn’t considered to be the strongest of rim protectors, but the two in partnership on defence is sure to produce positive results because who would dare challenge either of them inside. We say that because, according to National Basketball Association writer Baxter Holmes, the Kings’ underwhelming return may be because Ranadive has such a high opinion of Hield that he thinks he could/will be the next Steph Curry.

Of course, the current Kings management isn’t all to blame. And if he immediately meshes with Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans, he’s talented enough to surpass even those Hall of Fame names, though our projection doesn’t allow for that improvement.

In fact, I think DeMarcus Cousins is a gifted passer on the Tim Duncan-level of gifted big-man passers.

The Kings have not won more than 33 games in a season since drafting Cousins fifth overall in 2010 and grew exhausted of his antics that included frequent run-ins with coaches, media members and officials. There’s a moment during close games where he will make the decision that he doesn’t want to lose. The NBA Trade Deadline is February 23 at 3 p.m. ET. After promising the star big that they had no intentions of moving him during a private meeting on Feb 2, he went out two days later in an overtime win against the Golden State Warriors and picked up his 14th technical foul. “It’s because I can’t jump”, he said.

No matter what the front office may say, Cousins sure showed a lot of character in this press conference.

Today, the Pacers are buyers, but if a deal can’t be done soon, they may have no other choice but to put George on the market.

The Pelicans don’t play in Sacramento again this season, but when Cousins does return to Sacramento, it seems like he’ll receive a warm welcome.

Trading Cousins was a good idea, but in true Kings fashion that great idea was absolutely wasted by poor execution.

As a long suffering Orlando Magic fan, I can’t help but be a little jealous about the deal.

Still, given that New Orleans knocked down the first domino by getting Cousins, there are a couple of deals that might still actually take place. They gave up waiting for that to happen.

Only time will tell how this trade works out for both teams.
