As if it wasn’t painful enough that Celtic outclassed them, Rangers couldn’t even get the better of them in the physical battle if this tackle is anything to go by.

The current Gers crop now have four games in which to convince Caixinha that they deserve to stay at the club, with Partick Thistle (away), Hearts (home), Aberdeen (home) and St Johnstone (away) the matches remaining.

The Celtic support didn’t have long to wait to celebrate again as Boyata made it 4-0 in the 66th minute.

Brendan Rodgers has described his Celtic side as “exceptional” after they thrashed Rangers 5-1 at Ibrox on Saturday.

Leigh Griffiths thundered in his 15th of the season during a rampant opening from the visitors and defenders Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig got in on the act after the break.

A record 43,000 people bought season tickets last summer on the back of Rangers winning promotion to the top flight of Scottish football and bringing in high-profile signings like Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar. In the native walls of the “rangers” had 16 matches and scored 35 points, scoring 27 times and conceding 10 goals.

Scott Sinclair netted an early penalty after Myles Beerman needlessly fouled Patrick Roberts and Leigh Griffiths soon struck Celtic’s second. Kenny Miller’s late reply was no consolation. We faced a team with grown men so it is not like we can feel sorry for them’.

The keeper was then relieved to have a Griffiths shot from 12 yards come straight to him after Kieran Tierney had crossed from an advanced position.

And the captain believes that such was Celtic’s dominance in the game that Rangers couldn’t wait to get rid of the ball whenever they had it.

Roberts teed up McGregor, who took a touch before firing low through the legs of James Tavernier and into the far corner.

But there was more pain to come as Lustig danced past Danny Wilson to curl in Celtic’s fifth.
