Five takeaways: Clippers overcome 35-point deficit to stun Blazers

There’s no need to overreact – we knew this team was going to be a contender – but it’s encouraging to see them start to put it all together so early in the season. In the past three additions, I’ve covered the Charotte Hornets undefeated preseason streak and how that will translate into the season, New York Knicks playoff chances, and the potential showdown between Dwayne Wade and Lebron James. The manner in which they won was the storyline.

“Coming from a single parent home, and I had 3 younger brothers, so it was tough at times, and I see my family in a lot of these families coming in”, he added. The Clippers bench got rowdy during their comeback, to the point where Stotts told them to sit down. The Clippers outscored the Blazers 35-20 in the fourth quarter and 61-37 in the second half.

The antecedent here was Blake Griffin, and he (Rivers) was way off. This was an incredible game to watch.

“It’s bigger than just wins and losses and I think it’s bigger than basketball”, Crawford said of helping to distribute thousands of boxes of food and supplies.

The Clippers have improved their roster immensely after their defeat to the Rockets. Either Wesley Johnson or Paul Pierce could be the guy. Yes, the Warriors rested Steph Curry and Andre Iguodala, but that doesn’t take much away from what the Clippers did to them. That leaves Lillard, who signed a five-year, maximum extension worth an estimated $120 million (the value will be determined when the 2016-17 salary cap is set next July), as the centerpiece of a team now built around his timetable. What he did last night is just a sample of what we can expect from him during the season, particularly the playoffs.

“It’s easy to sometimes do things because it looks good”, Crawford said, “but they do it because it’s the right thing to do and they’re passionate about it. It’s a totally different feeling, and you get that from them”.

The Clippers players were joined by about a dozen members of the Army, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard who helped distribute the items.

The Clippers Foundations’ mission is to make a positive difference to children in L.A., while Feed the Children exists to create a world where no child goes to bed hungry.

What do you think?

It might not be explicitly expressed as such, but the Clippers are entering a do-or-die season.
