Five things that Ryan Reynolds wants you to know about Deadpool
A passion project for Reynolds, the irreverent, tongue-in-cheek movie follows Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool), a foul-mouthed, witty superhero who is bestowed with special powers after going through an experimental treatment for cancer.

“Deadpool”, an aggressively adult-oriented entry in the “X-Men” franchise, stars Ryan Reynolds as an anti-hero with a sick sense of humor and an up-yours attitude. Unfortunately, this means that things like plot and narrative take a back seat. Their timing was way off and the DeadPool actor remenisces, “I remember it was amusing because for about a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and all that stuff we were both single”, he describes the memory. “I think this character does that quite well”. The couple have a one-year-old daughter named James. But it wasn’t so he could be home where his heart is.
“(Vancouver) is a premier film destination, and it has state-of-the-art facilities, and we got tax breaks to get the movie done the way we wanted to get it done”. If you thought Zombieland was hilarious but could use some more jokes about testicles, then Deadpool hits the sweet spot; and we were definitely laughing, but the humour is not for everyone.
Early estimates have “Deadpool” set to make between $60 million and $70 million this weekend.
Deadpool’s cheeky snappy patter is a mix of post-modern irreverence and smarty-pants rudeness which plays to the actor’s comedy strength. Initially nothing happened, but that changed in 2014 when test footage was leaked and fan pressure encouraged bosses to greenlight a Deadpool movie, but with a smaller budget than usual superhero franchises.
Deadpool’s rabble-rousing antics on the battlefield are flashy and crowd-pleasing enough to convince the X-Men that he’s got what it takes to join Professor Xavier’s mutant hotheads and impressionable underlings.
“Deadpool” blitzed a bunch of opening records in its debut at the overseas box office and has rung up $14 million, Twentieth Century Fox reported Thursday.
