‘Fixer Upper’ stars upset homes are becoming vacation rentals
But we are going to be more strict with our contracts involving “Fixer Upper’ clients moving forward”, a spokesman for the Gaines’ remodeling company Magnolia Homes told the Waco Tribune.

According to the Waco Tribune, the people who have been listing their homes on Airbnb and VRBO say that they did not go on “Fixer Upper” with the intention of renting out the home. Living in a home that has been Fixer-Upper’ed means that your house is now a background for selfies and other forms of invasive and hilarious unwanted attention.
With Fixer Uppers getting strict and claiming they will tighten up their contracts, the 12 homes now up for rent may be the last that you’ll be able to enjoy, at least off-screen.
The Waco Tribune also spoke to some of the homeowners now renting their homes and they stated they never meant to do so, but took the route after much “unwanted attention” from HGTV fans or a change in employment. In the show, the Gaineses take dilapidated homes around Waco and renovate them to look better than new.
A quick search on Airbnb pulls up the Shotgun House, Mid-Mod House and Mailander House. That’s the true intent of our show, and we want to ensure that does not get lost in this new vacation rental trend.
Staying in one of the homes is not unlike being in a hotel, only a lot more sophisticated. In a statement, they said: “We want to do remodels for clients’ homes”.
For those of you (me!) wondering when HGTV will stop showing reruns of this high-quality program, Fixer Upper returns sometime this fall. According to Airbnb, The Chicken House can cost around $195 a night, while the Barndominium averages $1277 nightly on VRBO.
Even the Harp House is expected to rent out soon.
Booking dates start in January of 2017 and run through the beginning of July. Waco area hotels enjoy a pretty steady 70 percent occupancy on average.
