This otherworldly track will be featured on FKA Twigs’ forthcoming – EP. “Figure 8” is a reflection of my mind-state, and landing in New York and finding something I felt I could hold on to keep me sane.

A few hours ago FKA Twigs premiered new track ‘Figure 8’ on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show, and now an official version of the audio has surfaced. Speaking to the DJ, Twigs revealed that the song had been written during a period of confusion that followed the release of her first album “LP1” last year, and that it was partially inspired by voguing.

The track – which twigs debuted live in Melbourne back in January – is a pulsating knot of twisted synths and sounds like one’s brain literally being turned inside out. The singer, who is engaged to movie star Robert Pattinson, was also candid about the downsides of having a critically successful album, feeling like at any minute everything “could just completely fall apart”. Her instructor taught her that every hand movement “is a figure of eight”. In vogue dancing, the figure 8 is “the eternal move that never stops moving”.
