Flames’ Johnny Gaudreau: Scores OT victor against Blackhawks

The Flames solved goalie Scott Darling with their sixth shot of the period.

“They’re a good team”.

“I definitely don’t have the answers as to what happened, or else I think we’d be in a better spot”, said Bollig, a member of the Hawks’ 2013 Stanley Cup champion squad. “We’ll go from there”.

Sean Monahan also scored for Calgary (8-12-1), which has won consecutive games for just the second time this season. The Flames have won four straight at the Saddledome.

He made three more big stops in the opening seconds of overtime before Gaudreau stole the puck from Seabrook and scored the game-winner off a great deke.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (11-7-1): Kane notched his ninth multi-point outing of the season with a pair of assists in Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime victory at Edmonton that began a six-game road trip.

Nashville’s Pekka Rinne surrendered goals on Columbus’ first two shots 1:41 apart, and the Blue Jackets scored three times on their first nine shots.

“We got rolling and when we’re aggressive like that, it’s tough to contain us”, said Flames captain Mark Giordano. “The past couple games, I’ve noticed our back end is keeping pucks in the offensive zone, having a few zone time, and we’re helping our forwards on the forecheck”. “We’re getting that kind of attitude back where teams are going to have to come in and earn the points”, Flames center Joe Colborne told reporters.

The Flames opened the scoring on Monahan’s seventh goal with 4:55 left when he backhanded a shot past Darling, who got his stick tangled up in Mason Raymond’s equipment. Rookie Artemi Panarin continues to shine in his first National Hockey League voyage with a six-game point streak and five goals in his last five contests while newcomer Artem Anisimov has six points in his past five outings. Joel Quenneville challenged the play – his first challenge under the NHL’s new system – but there was no evidence of goaltender interference and the goal stood.

Hopefully, he won’t spend much time out of the lineup; while every team sees players miss time for illness, there doesn’t seem to be the risk of anything like mumps spreading around this year.

The Chicago Blackhawks had to send out right wing Brandon Saad this summer as a pending RFA, but got another young forward in return – Marko Dano was packaged to the Blackhawks from the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it didn’t take him long to work his way from the Rockford Ice Hogs to the Blackhawks roster proper.
