Flanagan subject of Klopp adulation in wake of Liverpool triumph

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted with Jon Flanagan’s performance in the Reds’ 3-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Wednesday.

Jon Flanagan made his first appearance for Liverpool since May 2014 in January.

Sterling managed just 45 minutes, which saw Flanagan get the better of him on several occasions – not least with a superb last-ditch tackle to prevent the ex-Reds forward shooting with only goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to beat – before being hauled off at the break.

“It was something I had to do to get the crowd up”, he said about his first challenge with Sterling.

‘The crowd have been fantastic, always right behind me even in the dark days.

Liverpool’s win lifts them to seventh in the Premier League, just six points adrift on Man City in fourth.

“We need to make sure we get that right and are more consistent in each game”.

Henderson believes it was a pivotal moment in the game, as the Reds completely dominated the two-time Premier League winners on Merseyside.

“I am just leaving that side [his contract] to my agent to see what happens but it was great to hear those words from the manager in the press conference”.

That’s how it is and we try to do this [but] that’s not too easy for Flanno because he has a lot of qualities but I think patience is not the biggest one.

He labelled their opponents, City, as “a very good team” but said Jürgen Klopp’s team have “played very well against them” in their three meetings this season.

“We have to sit together tomorrow and think about what we can do with Flanno”.

The 23-year-old has spent the past 18 months fighting back from a knee injury but has yet to feature in a Premier League outing since making his long-awaited return to action.

Liverpool will be out to avenge their Capital One Cup final defeat when they take on Manchester City at Anfield tonight.

“With the amount of games we’ve had – I know that’s not an excuse – I would imagine he would like more work on the training pitch”.
