Flash flood warning issued for Cook, DuPage counties

Excessive runoff could produce flash flooding, even in areas where heavy rain is not occurring.

Update, 2:57 p.m.:.

The heavy showers and thunderstorms will continue into Friday as the front takes its time exiting off to the east, but by Friday afternoon conditions will generally be improving.

By 7 p.m., police started announcing that numerous roads closed due to flooding were reopening.

This Flash Flood Warning replaces the Flood Advisory that was in effect for the island of Oahu in Honolulu County.

Torrential rainfall is expected this afternoon in some areas of the midstate, the National Weather Service reports.

A flash flood watch is still in effect for other areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for all of Western and Central New York today.

Rainfall rates up to four inches an hour are now being observed and can lead to flash flooding.

Areas that could experience flooding include but are not limited to Dillsburg, Gettysburg and Boiling Springs.

At this point, the weather service in Buffalo is forecasting general rain amounts ranging from. There’s a 60 percent chance of thunderstorm activity.
