Flash flood watch issued for northeast Ohio Saturday

Although southeast Texas remains under a Flash Flood Watch until 7pm Sunday, things are beginning to calm down after heavy rain pounded parts of Harris County on Sunday morning. Officials with the NWS say most flooding deaths occur in vehicles at night, as the dark often hides flood waters.

Watch out for localized flooding. The weather service forecasts occasional showers and thunderstorms through early Tuesday as waves of low pressure move northeast across the area. Flash flooding is a very unsafe situation. “Tropical moisture associated with this system will continue to result in additional areas of heavy rainfall”.

“Soils have become very saturated from rainfall since Wednesday”, the message said. And river levels and local water levels will need to be monitored!

Storms may also produce bursts of torrential rainfall called “wet microbursts”.

Some isolated areas could see up to five inches of rain, while most areas will see between one and three inches. “That area picked up 9-10” of rain this weekend. “Some locations within the warned area are no longer receiving rain at this time, but many area streams are out of their banks”.
