The Tulsa National Weather Service office has issued a flash flood watch for the Fort Smith area that will last from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon. Currently, the risk for severe weather will remain well to our south.

Rain, and possibly thunderstorms, is expected to hang around through midday Wednesday. It will be warmer, with highs approaching 70 degrees, and windy.

The heaviest axis of rain will shift east Tuesday night. Skies will become mostly cloudy by the afternoon with gusty winds of up to 21 miles per hour.

“First of all, we do expect ponding on area roadways just given the moderate to heavy rainfall we’re expecting over the next couple of days, but if you’re encountering a few of those low water crossings that typically flood, turn around, don’t drown”. Isolated areas could pick up over 6 inches of rain depending on track and training of rain and storms. Stay tuned to KSPR.com and the KSPR Weather Team for updates throughout the day.
