Fletcher on firing Yeo: ‘Things have just fallen apart’

Ryan Suter has seen his Minnesota Wild spiral in the wrong direction, so much so that the defenseman openly told reporters that he feels the team can’t go any lower. Loui Eriksson, who scored and set up a goal versus the Jets, recorded his third career hat trick in the Bruins’ 4-2 victory over the Wild on November 19. Those high hopes have disappeared as the Wild have now lost eight straight games and currently find themselves out of the playoffs.

Yeo, in his fifth season behind the bench, had a 173-132-44 record in his time with the Wild.

The news was confirmed on their official website on Saturday by Minnesota general manager Chuck Fletcher. The Wild are now 23-22-10 this season with 56 points, which ranks second to last in the Central Division.

When Fletcher gave Yeo a three-year contract extension after the 2013-14 season, he lauded his ability to develop several of the Wild’s young players.

Torchetti has twice served as an interim head coach in the National Hockey League – with the Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings – and won a Stanley Cup as an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Fans – there were 19,191 at the X on Saturday – expressed their displeasure with scattered booing during one of five unsuccessful Wild power plays as it become clear that the Wild are on the brink of falling completely out of the playoff race.

David Krejci broke a tie in the second period and Jonas Gustavsson made 31 saves to help the Boston Bruins beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Saturday.

The Minnesota Wild have an in-house replacement for Mike Yeo.

“Starting with the New Jersey game the next night, things have just fallen apart for us”, Fletcher said Sunday.

“We have to play the right way and take charge in getting our group out of this”, left wing Zach Parise said.

Even Yeo, who has searched for positivity after each of the past three losses, struggled to find something good to say until it was pointed out to him that he seemed dejected. Minnesota promoted John Torchetti from its Iowa AHL affiliate as interim coach.
