Flights between Glasgow and Sharm el-Sheikh suspended

The United Kingdom government has suspended all flights between the United Kingdom and Sharm el-Sheikh following concerns that a bomb may have caused a Russian airliner to crash, killing all 224 people on board.

It is not yet known if more flights will be suspended.

“The airlines are telling us that they expect by tomorrow they’ll be in a position to start flying those British visitors back to the United Kingdom”, he said. British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said it was a “significant possibility” that Islamic State (ISIS) was responsible.

The company said it hoped to bring its 1,700 customers back to the United Kingdom “in due course” and those due to fly today would be allowed to stay in their accommodation for free.

“Since then we have decided never to return. We will provide further updates as and when appropriate”, Cook said.

And up to 200 Irish citizens are thought to be in the Red Sea destination.

Another regular flyer to Sharm el-Sheikh said she had tried testing the baggage scans after she forgot a large drinks bottle in her hand luggage one year, which was not spotted.

Independent travellers are entitled to a refund from their airline, under European Union regulations, if their flight is cancelled.

– Thomas Cook has cancelled its flight and holiday programme to Sharm el-Sheikh until November 12.

If you are not travelling within the next 48 hours you will need to check with your travel company as to what your options are and follow their advice. Shares in the budget airline jumped about 3% on Thursday.
