In Pennsylvania, heavy rain, high wind and even some whiteout snow conditions are expected in the coming days. This storm will strengthen rapidly off the New England coast, with snow becoming heavy at times late tonight and into Friday.
The storm dumped more than a foot of snow in western and northern parts of NY state, with heavy rain forecast for coastal areas before the storm tapers off by early Saturday.
Winds will begin to ramp up along the Eastern Seabaord overnight Thursday night.
Crews will be clearing debris from storm drains Thursday, and front-end loaders and barricades are at the ready as Boston prepares for a powerful storm arriving Friday that is projected to cause flooding in coastal sections of the city and state.
The National Weather Service says models are still too disparate to forecast anything definitive Tuesday afternoon, but the 24 hours into Wednesday evening should reveal what the storm has in store.
Watch below: Snowfall amounts and timing, outlined below.
A storm traveling over the U.S.Midwest and South is expected to bring a weekend nor’easter to New England, with potential flooding and coastal erosion.
Mainly rain is now anticipated near the Interstate 95 corridor, with rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches expected. Some 80 million people are in the storm’s path along the East coast, and they’ll suffer through high winds – exceeding 50 miles per hour in some cases – flooding and snowfall.
Winds will be strong and gusty during the day Friday and into Friday night.
This new storm system will undergo similar bombogenesis-the quick drop in pressure that results in powerful, circulating winds that blow from the northeast (thus, a nor’easter), and causes storms to strengthen. Areas most at risk for damaging winds include: Eastern Long Island and New London, CT. Travel hard for high profile vehicles.
“This storm is going to be worse”, she told WCVB, “because it’s going over three high tides”. Residents along the coast will want to plan ahead in case of basement/road flooding.
Police in Quincy, Massachusetts, were using heavy front-end loaders to rescue people from flooded homes.
Major coastal cities in the Northeast will get rain, with little to no snow accumulation forecast.
Although the storm is expected to part ways with the USA on Saturday, it will only mean an end to the rain and snow.
