Water from the Flint river had for months corroded lead from the inside of water pipes before flowing into thousands of households across the city.

Croft says it was made a decision to wait for more data before choosing a lead-control method.
The committee hearing is titled, “The Flint Water Crisis: Lessons for Protecting America’s Children”. The plan will be detailed in the Republican governors annual $54.9 billion budget presentation to the GOP-led Legislature on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016.
The mayor of Flint has unveiled an aggressive plan to remove lead contaminated pipes from the city.
LANSING, Mich. (AP) Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is set to propose spending hundreds of millions more to address Flint’s water crisis and to update infrastructure, including lead water pipes, in the city and across the state.
“I’m asking Governor Snyder and the state to partner with us on this effort”.
Also, recently-revealed emails showed that MI officials trucked clean water into government buildings in Flint for state employees in January 2015, a full year before providing safe water to Flint residents.
The city’s water supply was switched from the Detroit system to the Flint River as a cost-saving measure in 2014, when Flint was under state-appointed emergency management.
A stunning video was posted on Reddit last night, showing a very articulate Flint resident describing the water situation in her city.
The news outlet did report, however, that two weeks after being told about the Legionnaires outbreak, Ambrose called Flint’s water “safe by all…standards” and criticized the Flint City Council for trying to end the use of the Flint River as a water source.
The family was still living in Flint, though, and Sophia’s lead level didn’t decrease. Henderson, who was appointed to her position by former emergency manager Darnell Earley, said the proposal would only cover a small part of resident’s water bills, and the increasing number of residents not paying their water bills is putting the city at financial risk.
“We’re going to get rid of these lead pipes one house at a time, one street at a time, one neighborhood at a time, until they’re all gone”, Weaver said in a statement Tuesday.
Flint’s water troubles, concerns about other aging water infrastructure and the Detroit school’s district dire financial outlook – it needs a $720 million infusion of cash over a decade to avoid bankruptcy, according to Snyder aides – overshadowed a one-time budget surplus and more nuts-and-bolts budget details this year, such as funding for education, municipalities and workforce development. Deputy press secretary Anna Heaton said that the governor will ask the Legislature for an additional $195 million in funding for the crisis. Snyder also plans to call for $165 million in funding for infrastructure needs across MI in the 2016-17 budget.
If consumed, lead can cause developmental delays and learning disabilities.

“We’re here to investigate what possible crimes there are, anything [from] involuntary manslaughter or death that may have happened to some young person or old person because of this poisoning, to misconduct in office”, said Todd Flood, the special counsel for the state attorney general’s office who is in charge of the investigation.
