Flint water crisis makes its way into 2016 presidential campaign
Gov. Rick Snyder of MI asked state lawmakers Wednesday to approve $195 million more in aid for Flint, where tainted water has caused health problems and prompted calls to rapidly fix the city’s crumbling infrastructure. I have no idea.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Friday he invited Snyder and EPA chief Gina McCarthy to testify on the Flint crisis.
But Edwards says the Flint River is already high in phosphorus and adding more wouldn’t have had any effect on bacteria.
Clinton also made a stop at UA Local 370 in Mt. Morris Township and spoke with business manager Harold Harrington, who was featured on Rachel Maddow town hall on the Flint water crisis on MSNBC last month, about efforts taking place to install filters and other items for city residents to try and alleviate concerns.
The state of Michigan’s inquiry into the Flint water crisis will consider any potential criminal conduct, including involuntary manslaughter, investigators said Tuesday.
“People were quickly informed of the results in the schools, and that action on the fixtures with elevated levels was taken immediately”.
Luckily, county health officials took action instead of waiting around for the results to be released to them, and Henry stated on the 6th that he was directing county health staff to visit Flint schools, meet with administrators and make sure no one was drinking the water to reduce the risk to students.
Frontrunner Donald Trump said in January, “It’s a shame what’s happening in Flint, Michigan”.
The first step, said Governor Snyder in an interview with MSNBC, is to start testing the water in 400 sites to locate the lead piping.
The bill is the first approved by Congress to respond to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
There is blame to go around, said Snyder, but he and other officials are working on making matters better. It also ensures consumer notification when the corrosiveness of water being transported in a lead pipe could leech into public drinking water.
His proposal Wednesday drew mostly positive reaction from lawmakers who will consider the legislation in the coming months and likely approve a plan in early June.
Officials have acknowledged the failure to control corrosion after Flint switched sources and began drawing water from the river in 2014 was a mistake that let lead leach from pipes into water that reached some homes.

The emails, which are from October and November 2015 and were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, include correspondence by Jim Henry, Genesee County’s environmental health supervisor, to county Health Officer Mark Valacak, and correspondence between Henry and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) Laboratory Director George Krisztian. Snyder also wants to reallocate $165 million from his “rainy day fund” to a new account called the “Michigan Infrastructure Fund”, in response to recommendations from the Commission on 21st Century Infrastructure. He did not specify who made the decision.
