Flip Saunders counting on Kevin Garnett, Tayshaun Prince to change

The Minnesota Timberwolves have an exceptionally talented young core, but to add to the mix, they have been attaining veterans to help guide the young guys. Garnett is the definition of a leader, and he has held that title since his first go-around in Minnesota.

Prince, 35, joins a cluttered frontcourt in which he may not even see time on the floor. Garnett returned and said he wanted to mentor the young players on the roster and Andre Miller has been looked at as one of the best “professional” players in the league with how he handles himself.

Prince was once a very good National Basketball Association player back in his prime with the Detroit Pistons as he was a lock down defender and a terror in transition. Unfortunately, Saunders is now battling cancer which may force him to miss games.

Prince averaged 7.5 points per game last season in just 24 minutes a night, while shooting 46.3% from beyond the arc. While Prince figures to be a part of the regular rotation for Minnesota, he’ll likely serve as a reserve behind Andrew Wiggins and Shabazz Muhammad at small forward.

The Timberwolves have done a nice job of building their roster with a nice mix of young players and veterans.

Prince was sitting on the market without much interest since free agency opened and now he has found a new team.

Entering the playoffs is still a pipedream for the Wolves, but they are certainly headed the right direction and have built a competitive team for the upcoming season. The team has Bennett after the trade for Wiggins last year and Muhammad was a top draft pick a couple years ago.
