As much of the area has already experienced heavy rain over the past 24 hours, the soil is sodden.
The great weather is about to slip away, according to the National Weather Service.
Flooding and weather damage was reported in western North Carolina Thursday as heavy rain and storms moved through the area.
This heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas as well as small creeks and streams. A state of emergency was declared in the county around 1 p.m.
When encountering flooded roads, the NWS said, make the “smart choice” – turn around, don’t drown. The Weather Service predicts minor flooding. Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings.
The Fox River registered at 10.2 feet as of 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a flood stage of 11-feet.
The NWS had earlier issued a flood watch across all of East Tennessee, which remains in effect through early Saturday morning, December 26.
