A flash flood watch is in effect until Friday evening for all of Southeast Texas as more severe weather is expected to hit rain tired areas, The National Weather Service says. “When it is heavy rain, don’t take the chance, there is no reason to be on the road if you don’t have to be and by far, stay at home if you don’t have to be commuting around because the roads around here are deadly when they become flash-flooding like that”. Flood warnings were in effect for Hood, Erath, Johnson and Somervell counties this morning, said Jesse Moore, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

“The potential for flooding is there”, she said. Heavy rain moved into Denton late Tuesday afternoon, with 1.34 inches recorded between 5 and 6 p.m.at Denton Enterprise Airport. “The ground is pretty saturated already, so anything that falls will be runoff”. With the amount of rain we have received these last few weeks, flooding and flash flooding will be a big concern especially Thursday and into Friday.

Currently, area lakes are only slightly above their normal conservation pool levels. The lakes and rivers across the area are at capacity and due to the flooding down south, water can not be released.

LPD also said, “It’s not safe to be out in this weather”.

“We lost four people just this past week to people driving in low water crossings, when they knew it was low water crossings, and knew it was flooded”, Yura says.
