The severe weather outbreak entailed killer tornadoes in Texas, flooding in the Midwest and blizzard conditions in New Mexico, CNN reports.
“The storm system will gradually pull away by Tuesday, but flooding and treacherous travel could (linger) into midweek”, the National Weather Service said. More severe weather is on the way.
In southern IL, authorities said three adults and two children drowned Saturday evening when the vehicle they were riding in was swept away and sank in a rain-swollen creek. The county sheriff believes a fifth person was in that auto.
Four of the Missouri deaths were worldwide soldiers stationed at Fort Leonard in Wood for training.
The Governor also urges residents to use caution in northern Missouri, where snow and freezing rain are expected as temperatures drop and wind gusts increase.
Eleven people died in the state after several tornadoes were reported in the Dallas area, causing substantial damage to homes and buildings and sending dozens to the hospital.

Much of Missouri is under a Flash Flood Warning and received 3 to 6 inches of rain this weekend.
As in Missouri, several people died over the weekend in IL when a motorist tried to drive over a flooded roadway.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to produce rainfall amounts of 5 to 8 inches across the area by Monday, causing rapid rises on local rivers and creeks, according to the National Weather Service.
