Floods set to peak across Australian state of Tasmania, threaten historic city

Searches for 2 people missing in flood waters at Ouse and Latrobe have been suspended and will be resumed at first light, according to media reports.
Five rivers have witnessed major flooding on Monday, floodwaters have isolated some towns including Latrobe and the army has reportedly been called in to help evacuate residents in some areas.
Search crews on Tuesday afternoon rescued a man in his 40s whose upturned kayak was stuck in a submerged tree near the Ouse river.
A woman in her 70s is also missing after her Latrobe home was inundated.

There is a major flood warning for seven rivers – Mersey, Forth, Meander, Derwent, North and South Esk rivers, and Macquarie.
While the rains have eased, emergency workers said the threat to the state continues as floodwaters move downstream.
The SES is urging residents to be prepared for further rain, stay out of flood waters, and stay away from beaches as swells of up to eight metres are expected along the northeastern coast.
