Florida allows Adam Lane to transfer

The 5-foot-7, 226-pound Lane ran 24 times for 181 yards and a touchdown last season.

UF tailback Adam Lane’s most valuable player performance during the bowl game in January turned out to be his last game with the Gators.

McElwain adds: “Family comes first in this program, and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can to help him”.

“It was the best thing that could have happened”, Lane said. “That’s the main goal”.

Lane had managed just 72 yards on eight attempts in six contests to that point. The Miami native was rated a three-star recruit coming out of high school. (Lane has also dealt with at least one family issue before: He missed Florida’s true 2014 opener against Eastern Michigan, with Will Muschamp explaining after the game that Lane had a family issue that Muschamp urged the running back to return to Winter Haven to resolve.). McElwain is a huge fan of Powell and was planning to get him plenty of touches already this season, so perhaps now he takes a few more hand-offs than initially planned.

Scarlett has been working with the running backs early in practice and Cronkrite will likely begin his Florida career working primarily on special teams. Herndon would at least be a capable body to fill that role should the depth chart take another hit at the position.
