Colorado’s population reached 5,456,574 as of July 1 versus 5,355,588 the same day a year earlier, the bureau estimates.

The state’s population increased marginally for the fourth year in a row, the slowest growth since 2012.
According to the Census, “These statistics use administrative data to estimate population change between census years, using the decennial census count as a starting point”. “It’s the most basic form of economic development”, helping various sectors of the local economy, including housing, retailing and health care.
The in-migration of adults of child-bearing age is playing a major role in the state’s current population trend, said Kevin Iverson, manager of the North Dakota Census Office. West Virginia’s aging population is also resulting in a natural decrease for that state.
Much of the population growth came from new residents moving into the city, both from other states and overseas. NY has 19.80 million residents, up just 0.2 percent in the past year. Texas ranks second with 27.5 million residents.
The country’s population on July 1 was 321,418,820, the Census Bureau reported, compared with 318,907,401 in 2014.
Arizona added almost 100,000 residents over the past year, sluggish gains by the state’s historic standards, but enough to remain among the fastest-growing states in the nation. Florida and California each added more than 350,000.
Demographer Kurt Metzger attributes Michigan’s slow growth to more people leaving the state – the most since 2011.
By 2040, Brower said, the number of deaths will exceed the number of births.

With gains in all categories, Snaith said Florida’s population growth “is hitting on all cylinders”. California got the dubious No. 1 honors on that question. As statehood advocates have tended to point out, that figure puts the District’s estimated population above Wyoming (586,107) and Vermont (626,042), whose populations didn’t budge much.
