Florida Gators stay put in polls despite huge conference win over Georgia

But I also have one about Florida. So, what the heck, I’m giving a shaky nod to Florida.

Over the past few years, there’s been some discussion among Tide fans about so many teams having a bye week before they take on the Crimson Tide.

The Georgia Bulldogs travel to EverBank Field Saturday afternoon to face the Florida Gators in a huge SEC matchup. Georgia – LB Jordan Jenkins (Probable, groin), S Dominick Sanders (Probable, suspension), WR Isaiah McKenzie (Questionable, hamstring), WR Shakenneth Williams (Questionable, undisclosed), CB Reggie Wilkerson (Questionable, undisclosed), RB Nick Chubb (Out for season, knee), LB Reggie Carter (Out for season, shoulder), FB Christian Payne (Out indefinitely, leg).

“I’m excited to get them together and see where they’re at and see if we’re willing to throw our chips in the bucket and go all in”. Treon Harris completed 17 of 32 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns and added 20 yards on the ground. He seemed to do his best work when he scrambled outside of the pocket and his receivers deviated from their original routes.

– Kelvin Taylor’s last game against Georgia was almost flawless. “I know that is in the back our kids’ minds”. “We’ve got to do a better job of keeping the quarterback corralled”.

So much can be said about the Gators’ defense on Saturday. The main thing, obviously, is the unit forced five turnovers.

Lambert struggled in the Bulldogs’ last outing and only threw 178 yards with an interception. Sony Michel managed just 45 yards on 13 carries. All night, UGA could not get any push to create open lanes for its running backs. The start will be Bauta’s first in his career as he’s served as a third string behind Lambert and Brice Ramsey. That was a total failure of the gameplan for the Bulldogs. It wasn’t the 418 yards Florida rushed for against UGA last season, but it certainly isn’t anything to scoff at.

Let’s start with the positives. This, after Georgia was able to average 41.3 points per game under Mike Bobo a year ago.

Mark Richt’s bold move backfired, as the former Dywer High standout couldn’t jump-start the Bulldogs’ anemic attack. That was all UF needed on the day.

The Gators’ lone explosive play in the first half was a busted play off a scramble drill, as Harris rolled left and found freshman wideout Antonio Callaway for 66 yards down the left sideline. I applaud that guy.

Now on to the bad. Ole Miss has the league’s most prolific offense, but has been beaten badly in its last two road games against Florida and Memphis. He also had an extra point blocked in the game. It’s an obvious confidence issue now, but Florida doesn’t have many options behind him. Florida is a strong team and they will play hard in the SEC East, representing our lackluster division.

The Bulldogs return to Sanford Stadium for another SEC showdown next week when they will take on the Kentucky Wildcats. “It feels great. If we do what we’re supposed to, we have a pretty good shot”. What he is doing with this program in Year 1 is incredible.

No. 1 it means that Richt has lost another big game.

The Gators just keep on winning, and boy, was this a big one. Beating a rival like UGA by 24 points is satisfying, no matter if the win was ugly or not. While McElwain didn’t fault Cronkrite for the play, he said players need to realize that any hit above the shoulder pads is at risk for a penalty.
