However, the news release said the Health Department suspects active transmissions of Zika are still only taking place in the Wynwood area of Miami-Dade County.

David Hamer, professor of global health at Boston University School of Public Health, a School of Medicine professor of medicine, and principal investigator for the global infectious disease surveillance network GeoSentinel, has been tracking the current Zika outbreak from its earliest days.
The Zika virus is spread to people primarily through the bites of infected mosquitoes; however, the virus has also been found to be transmitted sexually. DOH will continue to review and fulfill any necessary requests the county may need for mosquito control to continue fighting Zika.
The local transmissions of the Zika virus now stand at 30 in Florida. Louisiana so far hasn’t had a documented case of Zika contracted locally, though there have been around two dozen cases of travel-related Zika reported there, per the Shreveport Times. DOH has also coordinated mosquito control experts from around the state to provide guidance to Miami-Dade County on best practices for mosquito control.
DOH is investigating four areas in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties where local transmissions of Zika possibly occurred, Scott said. “Everyone in the Cayman Islands has to do their part in helping to reduce the population of this mosquito and thus the spread of the zika virus”.

Scott said state health officials have closed their investigations into the first cases in Miami-Dade and Broward counties that were announced July 29.
