Florida junior cornerback Teez Tabor and redshirt sophomore C’yontai Lewis were suspended immediately from team activities and for the Gators’ season opener against MA on Wednesday, Florida announced through a Jim McElwain statement. We will not look the other way when it comes to breaking of team policies. “We will be better because of it and no one person is bigger than the Florida Gators”.

The team’s website did not specify the reason for the suspensions, but ESPN reported the two had an altercation during a recent practice. It is unclear whether the hostility between the two carried over after practice.

Without Tabor, Florida should be strong again, returning six other defensive starters from a unit that ranked fourth in the SEC in scoring defense (18.3 ppg allowed) and total defense (310.2 ypg allowed).

Already thin at cornerback, the possible replacement for Tabor is either nickel Duke Dawson or redshirt corner Chris Williamson.

Last week, McElwain proclaimed, “I love the guy”, when asked about Tabor’s penchant to trash talk. “He’s a guy who cares”.

– Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly put a temporary end to the debate about which player will be the team’s starting quarterback this season by saying that both junior Malik Zaire and sophomore DeShone Kizer will play in the September 4 opener against Texas. He’s a guy who has really invested in himself. He’s able to line up outside, in the slot, and he even lined up over tight ends.
