Raymond Sutherland, 56, and his wife, Debbie, 54, were arrested Monday after Osceola County deputies say Sutherland’s mother was found gravely injured on the floor of their shared home.
A Kissimmee couple was arrested Tuesday after accused of physically abusing an 81-year-old woman, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Debbie Sutherland, of Osceola County, Florida was charged in connection with the abuse of her 81 year old mother-in-law. Raymond Sutherland’s mother, who is 81, was recovering from injuries in a rehabilitation center in mid-September when she first told deputies about possible abuse, sheriff’s spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said. The woman had fallen and asked her son for help getting up. Investigators say after a few time, Southerland called for medical assistance.
Doctors examined the woman and determined that her injuries were not consistent with a fall, but instead appeared to be from abuse, officials said.
Raymond denied hurting and neglecting his mother during detective questioning, but based on evidence was arrested, along with his wife, on felony battery charges.
Raymond was also charged with Elderly Neglect for not providing immediate medical assistance to his mother.
Both Raymond and Debbie Sutherland were booked into the Osceola County Jail.

Authorities said the elderly victim is in critical condition and the investigation is ongoing.
