The man, identified as 34-year-old Sherrod Whittington, was visiting from Ft.
As lifeguards were busy extricating swimmers from the water, they pulled the man’s body out after he had helped his wife to safety, according to the Miami Herald.
Seeing that lifeguards were occupied helping other swimmers, the man stepped up to help his wife.
Whittington was not breathing when he was pulled from the water.
Ocean Rescue later found him unresponsive and attempted CPR before he was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and passed away.
“It’s devastating”, said Jessica Roeder, a native of IN who is vacationing IN Miami Beach.
