Florida mother shoots and killed daughter she mistook for intruder
– Police in central Florida say a woman who was fatally shot by her mother after being mistaken for an intruder had been visiting for the holidays.

The mother claimed to have been awoken late at night by someone sneaking into her home in the city of St Cloud, local police said on Thursday (AEDT). Sherry Campbell, 45, told police that she heard someone enter their home shortly before midnight on Tuesday. She fired a shot as the “intruder” approached, but later learned that person was her daughter.
The St. Cloud Police Department asked that media outlets not publish the names of the shooter and her husband, because the man is a police officer who has previously worked undercover.
The daughter was taken to hospital where she died later.
“The homeowner fired one round at the subject”, Roberts said in a news release.
Detectives investigating the case say the evidence is consistent with the mother’s story.
He stops talking after getting CPR instructions and then his wife comes onto the line and says her daughter is breathing. The officer “is not under investigation” and police aren’t classifying the shooting as officer-involved.
The investigation will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for review.
A Florida television station reported that the mother is a dispatcher at a law enforcement agency. His stepdaughter lives at the home but had been visiting family in North Carolina.
“That’s really shocking, actually.” resident Harry Morris said.
