Meanwhile, Public Health England updated its travel advice after the first cases of Zika transmitted by mosquitoes on the U.S. mainland appeared in the state.
Health officials are saying that now there is an epidemic of Zika in Mexico, the Caribbean Islands and Central and South America.
Zika infections in pregnant women can have traumatic effects on their unborn children, causing microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Health officials believe all four patients were bit while in an area of Miami-Dade County just north of downtown Miami.
Scott also says Florida will spare no expense in fighting the spread of Zika.
There have been, however, cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome reported in patients with a suspected Zika virus infection, according to the CDC. “We have lots of mosquitos but we don’t have the species that are capable of spreading Zika virus in B.C”.
Florida should be able to contain the virus to an isolated area because its neighborhoods have better sanitation and living conditions than countries where Zika outbreaks have been widespread, said Adam Putnam, Florida’s commissioner for agriculture and consumer services.
Most people are who contract the Zika virus are asymptomatic.
The State Department of Health today also announced one more case of Zika in Louisiana.
“As far as surveillance is concerned we have multiple systems in place both to identify people who may get infected as well as trapping and testing mosquitoes”, said Dr. Nelson.
CDC Director, Dr Tom Frieden said, “All the evidence we have seen indicates that this is mosquito-borne transmission that occurred several weeks ago in several blocks in Miami”.
“We don’t now see a situation where we would advise pregnant women not to travel there”, Frieden said.
He said most of the guys on his staff always wear bug spray and take steps to avoid mosquito bites, whether Zika is in the news or not.
The FDA urged nearby counties to take similar precautions to safeguard blood supplies.
Even though the mosquito-transmitted cases were limited to South Florida, leaders across Florida were nervous about the potential fallout to tourism, the state’s No. 1 industry.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that it would not recommend limiting travel to Florida.
