The Florida Legislature and Florida Governor Rick Scott made some important changes to the 2016 back-to-school tax free weekend when compared to past years.

It’s officially called Iowa’s Sales Tax Holiday and runs today through midnight Saturday, allowing families a chance to save some money on their back-to-school clothing and footwear needs.

Missouri stores are gearing up for big crowds this weekend as shoppers are expected to take advantage of the state’s back to school sales tax holiday. Layaway plans also can be used on qualifying purchases during the tax holiday.

However, Backpacks priced under $100 sold for use by elementary and secondary students are exempt during the sales tax holiday.

It may seem hard to believe for parents, but the summer is quickly drawing to an end and school will begin in Lawrence County in just a few days. This year’s tax holiday will not cover the purchases of computers like it did in 2015.

The holiday is also helpful for teachers, who often dig into their own wallets to purchase supplies, Testa said. So if you buy an item such as a pair of shoes that costs $120, then the sales tax is due on the entire $120.

From Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7, certain items will be exempt from state and county sales and use taxes.

Back-to-school shoppers in Texas can save a bit of money this weekend.

But this year the tax-free weekend does not include personal computers and electronics. “So, if we can get out early in the morning, yea. Policymakers should instead consider policies that make our tax system fairer, such as a low-income refundable sales tax credit or a state earned income tax credit”. The break for shoppers will total 7 percent.

Families with children in kindergarten through 12th grade are expected to spend $27.3 billion – or an average of $637.57 per family – during back-to-school shopping, according to the National Retail Federation.

About 17 other states have comparable sales tax holidays in place, most with limits similar to Ohio’s. In addition, retailers may choose to pay the sales tax on any taxable items and pass the savings on to customers.
