Florida’s Riles out for season with knee injury

Florida will be without guard Antonio Riles for the season because of a knee injury, according to multiple reports.

Riles has been the team’s starting left guard during preseason practices because 2015 starter Martez Ivey is being held out of contact drills as a precaution following offseason shoulder surgery. “We’ll get it looked at, and when we know, we’ll let you know”, McElwain said.

It was later confirmed that Riles suffered a torn ACL and will likely be out for the season.

Gator Country first reported Riles’ injury. The Gators have very little experience behind their projected starters on the offensive line. Of the 19 other offensive linemen on the Gators roster, only two are upperclassmen: David Sharpe and Cameron Dillard. This is most certainly a blow to the unit’s depth and development.

The Gators enter this season seeking vast improvement up front. He is now competing with sophomores Tyler Jordan and Martez Ivey for a starting spot at guard.

A recruit out of Georgia, Riles still has one year of eligibility remaining.
