Florida State routs depleted Charleston Southern, 52-8

Florida State is turning the page to Charleston Southern, which won last week but could be down its top two quarterbacks Saturday.

More than 30 football players at Charleston Southern University have reportedly been suspended for a game after they spent book money, given by the school, on non-book supplies at the bookstore, Ariya Massoudi of the FSView first reported.

Florida State’s Davin Cook tries to squeeze the ball past the pylon for a touchdown as Charleston Southern’s Larenzo Mathis defends in the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in Tallahassee, Fla. Sixteen will come next week.

Chadwell still has to serve a one-game suspension because of an assistant’s impermissible social media contact with a high school player. As if the thought of having to stop Florida State was not daunting enough for the overmatched program, they face the possibility of having to do so with at least 30 players facing a suspension due to alleged improper use of their book money.

“We are being punished for using excess book money to buy school supplies clothes and electronics from the book store after being advised to “use it because it disappears if we don’t”, not knowing that we were committing an NCAA violation”, he said in the post. Now the school and NCAA are saying it’s against the rules. Players were using the money to buy other items such as pencils, notebooks, electronics and clothes. “The university is working with the NCAA, the Big South Conference and an outside consultant during the process”. Charleston Southern had 405 rushing yards in last Saturday’s 57-7 win over Kentucky State, the most on the ground in coach Jamey Chadwell’s four years at the school.

“In the first quarter, I just had to get hit a couple times”, Francois said of settling in Monday night.

Charleston Southern lost three fumbles with its read option accounting for 152 yards on 39 carries.

Fisher loves to boast about his team’s talented youth, and the Seminoles ensured a larger number of players got some much needed experience in the second game of the season.

Robinson claimed in his Facebook post that bookstore employees told players to spend left-over book money on other items “because we would not get it back”.

“What we are trying to prevent is winning games in a particular sport that may become forfeitures in the future because players who broke the rules participated in the games”, Small said in a statement last week.

Other players took to social media to voice their displeasure and suspicions, including receiver Colton Korn, who felt there’s more to the situation than meets the eye.
