Florida suspends CB Jalen Tabor, QB Treon Harris vs. Tennessee

Florida has suspended quarterback Treon Harris and cornerback Jalen Tabor for its game Saturday game against Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee. McElwain did not give reasons for the suspensions, saying only that they were “based on some choices they made”.

“I’m not angry at them at all”. They had a choice. “We need some guys to step up”.

In the wake of the October. 4 win, Harris was suspended from team activities amid accusations of sexual battery but was reinstated after the allegations were withdrawn.

Tabor is also a sophomore and a solid starter whose presence will be missed.

Tabor’s suspension moves Quincy Wilson in the starting lineup. At least the Gators have a legitimate star cornerback in probable 2016 first-round National Football League draft pick Vernon Hargreaves III to lock down one side of the field. Harris started the season opener and split time with Grier against East Carolina but didn’t play in last week’s win at Kentucky.

While we have not confirmed why he will not play, the Gators will go without the starter in the secondary, a unit that has been missing pieces nearly the entire season. If Grier plays well Saturday and guides the Gators to a victory, he will make a compelling case to remain atop the depth chart.

Redshirt freshman Will Grier has started the past two weeks and will presumably now pull away in the QB race.

Tabor has started two of Florida’s first three games this season, returning an interception 39 yards for a touchdown and leading the Gators with five passes defended.

Although McElwain didn’t say for certain whether the two were involved in the same incident, it’s not the first time Harris and Tabor have been involved with a legal issue.
