Florida tackles Zika virus
According to the SFDPH officials, there are a total of ten cases in San Francisco but officials have said there is no risk to public health and the virus is not circulating in the city.

The health department emphasized that it still believes the only place with ongoing Zika infection is a square-mile area in northern Miami.
“This is a sobering reminder for Californians that Zika can cause serious harm to a developing fetus”, CDPH Director and State Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith said in a statement released on Thursday. Wynwood is the only area where individuals are contracting mosquito-borne transmission of the virus, officials said.
Both women contracted Zika “after spending time in a country where the virus is endemic”, according to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
In California two babies have been born with Zika virus defects, one of them being born in Berkeley.
There is no vaccine yet or treatment for infection with Zika virus.
Eight women in IL are listed in the Zika Virus Pregnancy Registry, but an IDPH statement says five of those cases have not been confirmed, and those women may have Zika virus or Dengue fever.
Florida has recently reported several locally transmitted cases.
There were more than 7,300 confirmed cases of the Zika virus in the USA and its territories.
So far, the almost 1,700 Zika infections reported in the United States mainly have been linked to travel to countries with Zika outbreaks in Latin America or the Caribbean. The CDC has reported 14 cases of sexually transmitted infections.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito an aggressive daytime biter thought to be the primary spreader of Zika, can breed in very small amounts of water, as tiny as a bottle cap.

“Our surveillance activities include working with hospitals and other health care providers who notify us if and when a possible Zika case is diagnosed”, said Dr. Partners of pregnant women are advised to use a condom to guard against sexual transmission during pregnancy.
