The union had threatened to strike if the national health ministry failed to meet demands for better work conditions by Thursday.
Gov. Rick Scott and State Surgeon General Dr. John Armstrong are planning to give an update on Florida’s preparedness efforts relating to the Zika virus.
But in preparing for the worst, the governor asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to supply 1,000 kits to test for viral antibodies in pregnant women and new mothers who have shown Zika symptoms after traveling to affected countries.
The victim, a woman from Dallas County, Texas, was infected through sexual contact with someone who had recently returned from Venezuela.
Zika can cause fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis. But it wasn’t the first to raise the possibility of sexual transmission of the virus. So far, the only recent case that has been transmitted within the U.S.is believed to have occurred in Texas through sex.
The CDC advised men to consider using condoms after traveling to areas with the Zika virus. “I think it is too early to say anything about the role of climate change in the ongoing Zika outbreak”, Monaghan said.
On Wednesday, Canadian health officials announced that people who have travelled outside of Canada, the continental United States and Europe will be ineligible to give blood for 21 days after their return.
The outbreak of Zika virus and the threat to pregnant women has led to airlines offering refunds on trips to countries with cases of the virus.
“With the onset of spring and summer, the risk that the Zika virus will spread increases”. How long does the virus live in the sperm?
The head of the Pan American Health Organization Carissa Etienne has also said more resources are needed quickly if the region is to fight the Zika outbreak.
